The Molluscoids were a previous species that the Entities had interacted with in a previous Cycle.

History[]

The Molluscoids were mollusc-like creatures. At some point in their history, they interacted with a different alien species from their third moon, and fashioned technology based on them. They crafted giant bodies of metal that stood up to a mile tall, in which the Molluscoids lived and used to wade through thick gas and harvest resources from the planet below.[1]

The Molluscoids developed physics-defying nanofluids, which had the ability to impact friction, chemical bonding, and temperature, amongst other things. This fluid was used against the entities in their cycle, in an attempt to prevent them from reaching the molluscoid planets core.[2]

Their iteration of Cycle apparently "came down to the wire", implying that they came close to winning against the Entities.[3]

Technology[]

The Molluscoids were an advanced race of people, capable of creating giant mechanical suits in which they could live and roam around, as well as creating powerful nanofluids with a whole host of different properties. Withdrawal has access to this technology, by way of his shard.

Appearance[]

In his trigger vision, Withdrawal saw the molluscoids as beings that were built like snails or clams, with limbs long enough that they stood above the clouds.[4]

  1. One is a young man with a heavy syringe and a crafted outfit that augments his movements. Seeing the syringe reminds of a past cycle. A fleeting moment- recalled because the facet of this shard is focused on timing, and that cycle came ‘down to the wire’, as this shard’s little March would say. A civilization of molluscoids that fashioned means of locomotion. When they interacted with another species on their third moon, they emulated that species with the shells they built around them. In a low-gravity environment, they wore bodies of metal that each stood a mile tall, narrow, each with a lone individual, pairing, or family of molluscoids within. These spindle-limbed forms waded through gas, heads above the thickest of the gas, limbs ending far below, where they could harvest from the deeper, higher-pressure environment. - Excerpt from Heavens 12.all
  2. The fluid in that syringe almost aborted that cycle. To facilitate adaptation between the two different worlds, the molluscoids created nanofluids that impacted friction, chemical bonding, and temperature, among other things. When the cycle closed on the moon, the molluscoids modified the fluids and did what they could to prevent access to the planet’s core. - Excerpt from Heavens 12.all

  4. Dark shadows danced across his vision. Glimpses of shadow-people, built like snails, or clams, but with limbs so long there were clouds around their legs. They turned and they looked at him. They communicated in whispers that should have been incomprehensible. They spoke to him in those same whispers. - Excerpt from Interlude 17.x II
