1.x (Interlude; Prancer) is the ninth chapter of Daybreak and the first interlude chapter of Ward. Prancer's team arrives at The Lodge to little fanfare. In response, he gathers together minor villains in the building and plans to propose an alliance while the major villain and hero teams are distracted.
Summary[]
A trio of Alaskan villains drive towards a rustic fortified compound at the edge of a corner world wilderness. Moose is uneasy and senses a trap, recalling a villain from his past with a mansion custom designed for torture. Harper (Velvet) and Linc (Prancer) shrug off his concerns but still want to look dignified for their hosts. The trio suit up, enter the building, and talk to the elderly bartender in search of contract work. While waiting for an invitation to the upper floors, they review the bottom-floor patrons. Ripcord, a small-scale team of teenage villains, sends over their representative, Gorgos. Gorgos offers his team’s assistance in drug trafficking, and Prancer leaves the question open for discussion. As they await the next batch of villain arrivals, Velvet repeatedly expresses her desire to talk to some bigger names upstairs. Prancer jokes that they should first sell or refurbish her truck, a proposal met with a chilly reception. When she leaves the conversation, Prancer muses with Moose on the former’s history and the tenuous nature of his relationship to Velvet.
Velvet returns and Lord of Loss’s team shows up at the door of The Lodge. They are met with thunderous applause and seek out counsel with Marquis upstairs. Nursery briefly comes over to chat with the Alaskan villains and disclose the purpose of her team’s recent mission: to kidnap a controversial individual and kickstart a relatively controlled public debate over vigilantism. Nursery appraises the personalities of her teammates and claims that her powers are actually hosted by her unborn child.
Frustrated by the lack of progress they’ve made in finding work among the major villain groups, Prancer ruminates over a potential solution. He orders Moose to round up the other loose bottom floor villains and invite them to meet outside. Blindside inquires further, and Prancer begins to compose a plan for greater organization among lesser villains. Biter affirms his concept, stating that many minor villain groups would be open to collaboration.
