Flare 2.3 is the third chapter of Flare. Victoria has a situation handled by Tempura. Rumors of war creep on the horizon. Demonstrations are held, and a Broken Trigger occurs.
Plot[]
As night approaches, Victoria and Tempera convene with Sam, the teenager whose friend has developed a dangerous power. Tempera has to break off the conversation early due to the ongoing situation. Despite Tempera’s recommendation for Victoria to wait until tomorrow, Victoria decides to join the other hero forces in dealing with the broader conflict tonight.
As a PRTCJ member, Crystal will be on the front lines. While Victoria is sorting through Crystal’s stash of New Wave prototype costumes, they discuss the nature of the ‘war’ they’re trying to avert. Construction workers on loan from other earths are demanding that their employers respect ‘first dibs’ on the houses they’ve been building. Whatever the case, the workers’ previous contracts have been rendered null, and now they’ve claimed ownership of the buildings and equipment. The heroes’ goal is to keep the stalemate cool until an agreement is found between the workers, the construction firms, and delivery workers from Earth K.
Victoria and Laserdream fly to one of the ‘battlefields’, the headquarters of a construction firm. The PRTCJ site supervisor directs them to guard the south side of the building and suggests that tonight will be subdued compared to the demonstrations planned for tomorrow. Victoria is stationed next to Spright, who makes an (unsuccessful) effort to flirt with her. Spright’s teammate, Shortcut, butts in and takes credit for Victoria's rejection from Advance Guard. He was aggrieved by how she acted during the Norfair Community Center Attack (which he was sent to handle), but his rant is cut short by shouts of panic down the street.
Something has sparked a chain reaction of broken triggers in one of the crowds, with the area of effect expanding at an exponential rate. A few workers even run into the afflicted area to join the victims in the hopes of acquiring powers. Victoria and Laserdream fly over in an attempt to protect the rest of the crowd, only to be staggered by waves of trigger visions.
