Daybreak 1.4 is the fourth chapter of Daybreak. Mercenaries enter the building, Blindside vs Victoria, Jasper admits Gilpatrick set Victoria up for a test. Just not this test.
Plot[]
Victoria intercepts the logging truck, guiding it off-course to minimize the damage to the bus. In the collision, she is knocked onto the ground and decides to play dead. She overhears a conversation between the villains, who are trying to assess the situation. Their group contains at least five members: a rattled teenager named Blindside, an unnamed brutish type, a man with metal gauntlets named Snag, a woman named Nursery, and “K.C.”.
Snag attempts to prevent Jasper’s bus from reversing out of the scene, only to be thwarted by the attacks of Crystalclear and Fume Hood. The brute villain, revealed to be Lord of Loss, notices Victoria and becomes suspicious of her condition, directing Blindside to watch over her. Lord of Loss states that their goal is to capture Fume Hood, as he changes into an aerial form and flies up to the roof. Snag and Nursery advance into the building.
Blindside tries to take Victoria’s gun, having caught on that she is no mere unconscious civilian. Victoria’s retaliation fails thanks to the effects of Blindside’s power. Though Blindside attempts to explain that the villains’ scheme is directed by the woman who lost her child to Fume Hood, Victoria sees through the rouse and continues to look for an opening. As the two brawl, Victoria eventually gains the upper hand by overwhelming Blindside with her aura and the sound of gunshots, before knocking out the villain with a whip of her armored vest.
Jasper’s team returns, and Lord of Loss becomes aware of their position. Victoria uses her forcefield to break through the wall which had been damaged by the truck. With the situation about to escalate, Victoria interrogates Jasper to determine whether Gilpatrick had set her up to fail. Jasper denies her suspicions, stating that Gilpatrick had only been pressured to evaluate her competence and reliability in routine conflicts. Tentatively satisfied by his explanation, Victoria directs the patrol to stay out of danger. She runs into the building and is signaled by Crystalclear’s blasts.
